SINGH, SATVIR (2019) AUDIT OF LYMPHOMA PATIENT CARE IN THE ADULT PAPULATION AT LAUTOKA HOSPITAL FROM THE YEAR JANUARY 2014 TO DECEMBER 20. Masters thesis, Fiji National University.

Abstract

Keywords: Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma, Lautoka Hospital, Fiji
Introduction: Cancer is the third largest cause of death in Fiji. Lymphoma falls largely behind breast and gynecological malignancies. Despite this we have lymphoma chemotherapy available at Lautoka hospital and no much is known about its demography and its outcomes.
Method: A clinical audit was conducted of the histo-logical classes of lymphoma at Lautoka hospital from 1st January 2014 – 31st December 2018.
Results: A total of 36 patients aged 18 and above were included in the study.
The incidence of HL was 2.88/100,000 and that of NHL was also 2.88/100,000. Both Lymphomas common in males than females 1.57:1, common in the Fijian of Indian descent 56% and 67% for Hodgkin's and Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma respectively. Majority 73% and 56% present in advanced stages to hospital at the time of diagnosis for Hodgkin's and Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma respectively. The 6 and 12 months survival for Hodgkin's Lymphoma is 85% and 69% respectively where as that of Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma is 58% and 54% respectively.
Discussion: The incidence of Hodgkin's Lymphoma is similar to that in literature but Non Hodgkin's lymphoma incidence is quite low. The overall survival of Lymphoma in this study is quite substantially low and this is because of non-compliance, standard chemotherapy availability and late presentations.
