Krishna, Dr Praneel (2009) [8 Year Retrospective Study] Retrospective Analysis of Data for Deliveries at Labasa Hospital August 2001 - August 2009. Masters thesis, Fiji National University.
The 8 year Retrospective Study (August 200 I -August 2009) focused on information from PATIS of the Ministry of Health on the total number of deliveries performed at Labasa Hospital which was 13642 and computed to and average of 1949 deliveries/month. The most number delivered was in the year 2006 which amounted to 2033 and the least in the year 2002 which was 1861 deliveries in total. The general trend is that the mean number of deliveries is increasing for the Hospital over the years.
The average number of deliveries per month of every year from years 2002 -2008 was averaged for the individual years and the most was in the year 2006 with an average of 169 deliveries/month and the least in 2002 with an average of 155 deliveries/month. The average number of deliveries/month from years 2002 -2008 was an average of 162/month. There is also a general upward trend in the average number of deliveries/month performed at the Hospital.
The highest number of average Percentage Caesarian sections/month was in the year 2004 with a rate of 17% and the least in years 2001 and 2008 with an equal rate of 10%. The average rate stands at 13% for the 8 year period.
An preliminary survey based on observations made by the Researcher shows that the Obstetrics Department is understaffed and lacks many essential facilities to supplement for better health care for delivering mothers.
