Nand, Miss Parvesh (2008) How Many Shoulder Views Do We Need, Is Anteroposterior View of Shoulder enough as a Routine View at Labasa Hospital setting (FIJI). Other thesis, Fiji School of Medicine.
A retrospective analysis of the radiographs of the shoulder in five hundred (500) patients examined for shoulder complaints was performed to evaluate the usefulness of the anteroposterior view and lateral view. Each study included anteroposterior and lateral view. The anteroposterior view detected 155 (96%) of the 150 findings and the lateral view showed 67 (45%) of the 150 findings. The anteroposterior view was more effective than the lateral view, however, the two views were often complementary, and the lateral view was particularly helpful in determining the relationship of the humeral head to the glenoid in shoulder dislocations. Additionally the lateral view was useful in detecting positive findings in those patients with history of trauma, when correlating the clinical presentation of patients to the outcome of the findings. There were 150 positive findings detected on shoulder x-rays. The anteroposterior view was able to detect 145 (96%) of 150 findings; 95% (191% to 100%.The lateral view showed 67 (45%) of 150 findings; 95% (I 75 %to 100%.
